It comes with a DVD featuring Nancy and Joan showing innovative techniques to make the garments in record time. Joan says none of the doll outfits should take over a half hour to make and when you see the DVD you will believe it. I think you will use these techniques over and over when you see how much time they can save you! Most of the doll clothing in this book is made using "flat construction" techniques. A caution: Some of the patterns for the girls use purchased T-Shirts or jeans. Also some of the patterns for the girls are asking you to use a commercial pattern for the basic pieces while directions are given on how to modify the pattern to match the dolls. When you look at the description of each outfit here on this website, look for the typing in red for details about this.

The patterns fit the popular 18-inch dolls and girls sizes 4, 6 and 8.

The book has large pages in the back of the book with the pattern pieces printed on them. You will need to trace or xerox the pattern pieces to cut out your fabric.

The most unique garment is the T-Shirt Dress. It uses a purchased T-for girls with a skirt attached. The doll's version has instructions to make both the T-shirt and the skirt. Also included with this pattern are instructions for making leggings for dolls. The leggings work up so fast that you can make them to match all the dresses and skirt!

The Flowered Party Dress has only a pattern for the doll's dress. Look to find a complementary pattern for girls that has a basic A-line dress with a high waist. Add the constrasting bands and sleeve ruffles following the information in the instructions.

The sewing patterns fit 18" dolls (those with vinyl head, arms and legs and a cloth stuffed body) such as The American Girls Collection® by the Pleasant Company, Götz Dolls® (non-designer) and many others. The patterns were actually designed to fit The American Girls Collection® and Götz Dolls® (non-designer) loosely to allow for individual differences in the stuffing of the dolls. It will also fit the following 18" dolls: Dress Me Doll© from The Martha Pullen Company, Tolly Girl®, Faithful Friends Collection®, Liberty Landing®, Girls on the Go®, Savannah of Storybook Heirlooms™, Laura Ashley®, Collector's Lane®, Creative Doll Company®, Springfield Collection®, Sophia's Heritage Collection®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™ and miscellaneous composition and porcelain dolls. Since some dolls, such as Liberty Landing®, Tolly Girl®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™, are a little thinner, you may want to check the size of your doll and adjust the sewing pattern slightly for a better fit.
