Smocking plates modified for this doll dress.

We shortened the length of this dress. If you want to shorten your dress also just cut the front and back skirts shorter. Then follow the simple directions for making the hem as you sew the tuck in the skirt.

If you are an experienced smocker you may have many smocking plates you want to use for this dress. However, the patterns in smocking plates are often too large for dolls. Chances are the plates with stacked cable pictures will definitely be too large to use. However, many of the design elements in the geometric smocking plates may work. You can look for patterns that are five full rows (ten half-rows) wide and see if they will be attractive in this dress. Of course, it is always fun to experiment!
