Joan Hinds has written eight books of sewing patterns for 18-inch dolls. These books include a variety of costumes that range from playwear to ball gowns. The first seven books were coauthored with her former partner, Jean Becker.

Costuming dolls is the perfect expression for Joan Hinds' love of sewing and needlework. All aspects of pattern drafting, fashion design, embellishment and fantasy are incorporated in projects that need only small amounts of fabric and trim. Joan travels the country to share her knowledge with sewing guilds and shops and has appeared on the PBS series, "American Sews with Sue Hausmann."

Joan lives in Duluth, Minnesota, with her husband Fletcher. They have two grown children, Kevin and Rebecca. Kevin is a college senior studying computer science and Rebecca is in her first year of college pursuing vocal music performance. Joan Hinds and her husband are eager to start their new phase in life as empty nesters.
