Pretty In PinkNew American Girl Doll Julie Albright

How exciting to have this pattern for matching girl and doll ponchos just at the time when the new American Girl, Julie Albright, has come out. Julie is a historical doll who grew up in San Francisco in the 1970's, the time of the human potential movement. This was a time when people were searching for new ways of being. They were struggling with issues such as whether they thought the war in Viet Nam was right or not and whether they thought discrimination against black people was right. Many women were starting to believe that they should have as many rights as men had. It was also a time for people to look inward and try to change situations that made them unhappy. As a result, many people ended marriages that were not working for them.

Julie Albright is an American Girl doll who lived in San Francisco, the heart of the human potential movement, and was caught in all the turmoil. Her parents divorced and she had to cope with not having her family together. She learned to take charge of her life and believe in herself, and also that the love is still there in a family even when they are not together.

These crocheted ponchos are the perfect expression of a believe in connecting with nature that was prevalent in the 1970's.

People loved to wear natural fabrics, such as cotton, and to sew and crochet garments for themselves. They were searching for love and a deeper connection to the earth and the homemade clothing expressed these values. I personally believe that, by teaching your child to crochet for her doll, you can help to capture some of the connection to the simple life that people in the 1970's were wanting to find. (Without the destructive mistake some people in the 1970's made of trying to find it in drugs.)

Giggles and Wiggles Ponchos Santa Set

The Santa Set (red and white) uses Bulky Weight Yarn, Pretty In Pink uses Sport Weight Yarn and Giggles and Wiggles (purple) uses Sport Weight Yarn.
