Pattern Book "The Dolls' Clothes Collection" by Christina Harris - $24.99 Victorian Doll Pattern - The Walking Out Costume
In the mid to late 1800s a costume for walking out was very fashionable. Waists were still corseted and jackets and skirts were smartly cut with almost a military feel. The trim was simple and the only frills were found at the neck and peeking out beneath the sleeves as a reminder of femininity. Large hats covered with plumage were the order of the day. While Nanny pushed the perambulator, the lady of the house was free to promenade with her husband while young ladies took the arms of their beaux. The pattern includes directions to make the engageantes (half sleeves), jacket, skirt, camisole, drawers, half-petticoat, Merry Widow hat and boots.
Christina Harris gives ideas on how to adapt the pattern to create the Calling Costume pictured above. The pattern for the Walking Out Costume is sized for a doll that is 20-22 inches tall. Directions are given to modify it for those that are from 14 to 25 inches tall. Next pattern: Victorian Doll Dress for School The model in the picture is a Queen Louise M102, a reproduction of an Armand Marseille German Doll. |
