Dress and Pinafore
A long sleeved dress with a pinafore over it was worn in the schoolroom by young girls in Victorian England. Under the dress were drawers and two petticoats, a full one made from cotton and another made from red flannel to give warmth in the chilly classroom. Sturdy black leather boots over black stockings were the everyday wear of these little girls.
The pattern includes directions to make the dress, pinafore, high-buttoned boots, drawers, petticoat, red flannel petticoat and long black stockings.
Christina Harris gives ideas on how to adapt the pattern to create the Victorian school dress with apron pictured above.
The pattern for the Victorian Doll Dress is sized for a doll that is 17-19 inches tall. Directions are given to modify it for those that are from 14 to 25 inches tall.
