Out of Print, No Longer Available Pattern Book "The Dolls' Clothes Collection" by Christina Harris - $24.99 Victorian Doll Dress Pattern - Sunday Best
The Sunday best dress was worn when attending church or visiting friends and relatives. On Sundays children were allowed out of the nursery to take tea in the drawing room with their parents. Sunday best also meant Sunday manners and children were not allowed to play in the garden as their clothes were easily spoiled. They played quietly with their Sunday toys - a special doll or a Noah's Ark. This Sunday dress has a nautical look with the overskirt drawn up to form panniers. The pattern includes directions to make the dress, pannier, petticoat, drawers, long white stockings and ankle strap shoes.
Christina Harris gives ideas on how to adapt the pattern to create the Afternoon Day Dress pictured above. The Victorian doll dress pattern is sized for a doll that is 20 inches tall. Directions are given to modify it for those that are from 14 to 25 inches tall. Next pattern: Traveling Coat and Spatterdashes The model is Monica M1013, a reproduction of a German antique doll by C M Bergmann c.1916.
