Pattern Book "The Dolls' Clothes Collection" by Christina Harris - $24.99 Vintage Doll Clothes Pattern - Motoring Wear for a Gibson Girl
With the birth of the motorcar, protective clothing was essential. Cars had no windscreens or doors, and the roads were not yet tarmaced so it was a dusty business. Leather, gabardine and animal fur was worn by the very wealthy, but coats made from heavy cotton fabric, called dusters, were easily laundered and proved very popular with the average motorist. The American artist Charles Gibson immortalized the women of his day, giving them a haughty look and wearing their hair piled up on their head. This Gibson girl wears a blouse with a pretty lace-edged jabot and a skirt to match her coat. The duster has a large pleat in the back with a tab buttoned over it. Included are directions for make the duster, jabot, blouse, skirt, camisole, bloomers, long stockings, half-petticoat, motoring bonnet and high-buttoned boots.
This vintage doll clothes pattern includes directions to adapt the pattern to make a short coat and Glengarry bonnet or a long skirt with a blouse that has a pin-tucked bodice. The pattern is sized for a doll that is 18 inches tall. Directions are given to modify it for those that are from 14 to 25 inches tall. Next pattern: Sailor Dress The model is a reproduction of the 1910 French doll, Mon Cheri Paris c.1910, M1004. |
