Betty Alderman says, "I refer to this type of a quilt as a 'stripy' quilt. We often see early quilts made this way, particularly when the quilt maker had a lovely floral fabric to show off. The Amish. too, were fond of using this type of setting. Perhaps, it was because the long strips of fabric allowed the maker to showcase her quilting skills.
