Czech clothes for 18-inch dolls: This lavishly embellished costume, called a kroj, is from the historic eastern European region of Moravia. Heavy with lace, the blouse has a neck ruff reminiscent of elaborate clothes worn in the courts of ancient royalty. The black vest has embroidered ribbons and is worn with a full gathered apron and "skirt." The skirt is actually a lace-trimmed apron that is worn backwards and tied in the front. The actual apron is bordered by wider lace and has embroidered ribbon ties that wrap around to the front. This fashion style allows a young girl to begin embroidery on her kroj at an easily age and wear it for her wedding. When her waistline expands during pregnancy and possibly into her middle years, she can still wear the aprons by adjusting the waist. An unmarried young woman wears a wreath of flowers with ribbon streamers in her hair. Incidentally, a young man's hat is decorated with feathers. Each long feather stands for a girlfriend. When he married, the feathers are "clipped" to shorten them. The sewing pattern includes the blouse, vest, skirt, apron and flower wreath. Czech clothes fit 18-inch dolls (those with vinyl head, arms and legs and a cloth stuffed body) such as The American Girls Collection® by the Pleasant Company, Götz Dolls® (non-designer) and many others. The Czech clothes are actually designed to fit The American Girls Collection® and Götz Dolls® (non-designer) loosely to allow for individual differences in the stuffing of the dolls. They will also fit the following dolls: Dress Me Doll© from The Martha Pullen Company, Faithful Friends Collection®, Liberty Landing®, Girls on the Go®, Savannah of Storybook Heirlooms™, Laura Ashley®, Collector's Lane®, Creative Doll Company®, Springfield Collection®, Sophia's Heritage Collection®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™ and miscellaneous composition and porcelain dolls. Since some dolls, such as Liberty Landing®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™, are a little thinner, you may want to check the size of your doll and adjust the pattern slightly for a better fit. Infinite Freedom and Sally Robertson are not associated with any of the above named dolls or companies in any way.
