American Indian clothes for 18-inch dolls: The Ojibwa Nation of northern Minnesota and Ontario developed this American Indian jingle dress for dancing. Several stories and dreams have been used to explain the origin of this costume. Now the dress can be seen at powwows across the continent. An apron decorated with rows of jingles is worn over a simple cotton dress with straight sleeves. Chosen for their pleasant ringing sound, the jingles are made from rolled snuff can lids. Knotted bias tape is slid into the cone to attach the jingles to fabric. For dolls, metal cones found in leather supply or bead shops can be used. The apron can be lifted up to make sitting easier. Cloth leggings, moccasins, and a hair ornament are other essential elements of these American Indian clothes. Pattern includes dress, apron, leggings, bandana, hair ornament and moccasins.

American Indian clothes fit 18-inch dolls (those with vinyl head, arms and legs and a cloth stuffed body) such as The American Girls Collection® by the Pleasant Company, Götz Dolls® (non-designer) and many others. The American Indian clothes are actually designed to fit The American Girls Collection® and Götz Dolls® (non-designer) loosely to allow for individual differences in the stuffing of the dolls. They will also fit the following dolls: Dress Me Doll© from The Martha Pullen Company, Faithful Friends Collection®, Liberty Landing®, Girls on the Go®, Savannah of Storybook Heirlooms™, Laura Ashley®, Collector's Lane®, Creative Doll Company®, Springfield Collection®, Sophia's Heritage Collection®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™ and miscellaneous composition and porcelain dolls. Since some dolls, such as Liberty Landing®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™, are a little thinner, you may want to check the size of your doll and adjust the pattern slightly for a better fit.
