Sew Italian Clothes
for 18-Inch Dolls

Italian clothes for 18-inch dolls: Much of the clothes and embroidery of Italy stem from the Renaissance period. This costume, from the Roma Province, is commonly shown to represent Italy. A brightly colored skirt decorated with contrasting ribbons is worn with a white linen or cotton blouse. A bodice made from wool laces up in front and has ribbon straps that tie at the shoulders. The large cotton apron is trimmed with ribbons and braid. The unusual headdress is called a tovaglia. It was originally made to protect the neck and back of the head from the sun. It is made from white starched linen and secured with pins. The sewing pattern for Italian clothes includes a blouse, skirt, bodice, apron and headdress (tovaglia).

Italian clothes fit 18-inch dolls (those with vinyl head, arms and legs and a cloth stuffed body) such as The American Girls Collection® by the Pleasant Company, Götz Dolls® (non-designer) and many others. The Italian clothes are actually designed to fit The American Girls Collection® and Götz Dolls® (non-designer) loosely to allow for individual differences in the stuffing of the dolls. They will also fit the following dolls: Dress Me Doll© from The Martha Pullen Company, Faithful Friends Collection®, Liberty Landing®, Girls on the Go®, Savannah of Storybook Heirlooms™, Laura Ashley®, Collector's Lane®, Creative Doll Company®, Springfield Collection®, Sophia's Heritage Collection®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™ and miscellaneous composition and porcelain dolls. Since some dolls, such as Liberty Landing®, Autumn Harvest™ and Our Generation™, are a little thinner, you may want to check the size of your doll and adjust the pattern slightly for a better fit.
