It starts with a crisp white blouse fastened with a silver brooch (Norwegian brooches have small silver concave disks dangling to reflect the firelight on long dark nights). Over the blouse is a black wool skirt, a red bodice with ribbon trim, and a beaded or embroidered plastron. The embroidered white linen apron with a wide ribbon at the waist is worn over the skirt.
