"The Peasant Dress" for Girls by Grace Knott, Judith Marquis
- $8.00
The Peasant Dress
for Girls, Size 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 in one pattern

This pattern is
just like the original garment designed by Grace Knott except that
it has been improved. Since Grace's death, her grandson has been running
the smocking business she started so many years ago. He recently hired
Judith Marquis to upgrade and improve many of Grace's patterns. Judith
has added options to this smocked bishop dress which only had one
choice for the placement of the opening (in the back). The pattern
now includes two new variations, a front button placket opening down
the center of the dress and a placket opening on the center of the
sleeves. The smocked dress can be made with short sleeves or long
sleeves.
Smocked bishop
dresses are traditionally gathered around the neckline in a circle
for smocking and the neck edge is then finished with self-bias trim.
They always have raglan sleeves. The dress is typically made in soft
pastel batistes or in calico prints. With just a little creativity
you can give this dress a very Victorian look or give it a homespun
country look. The smocking on the cuffs of the long sleeves is a beautiful
added touch.
