Glinda Storybook Doll Costume Pattern

Glinda - the Good Witch of the North costume

The Glinda costume pattern for dressing up your storybook doll includes directions for the gown slippers, crown, magic wand, camisole, bloomers and half-petticoat.

The gown's low cut bodice is self-lined and gathered in netting. It fastens at the back and the sleeves are folded double and billow out into delicate gossamer puffs. The whole gown shimmers with stars caught up in the netting that flows over a full dirndl skirt.

Glinda's slippers are little slip-ons made from pink velveteen with silver buckles and stars decorating the toes. Her camisole uses narrow ribbon and lace for the straps and the edge of the camisole. The bloomers are gathered just below the knee and two tiny bows decorate the front of each leg. The petticoat is made from two layers of netting gathered together at the waist. The top layer has a ruffle made from neeting around the bottom. What an awesome pattern for turning any doll into a storybook doll wearing this beautiful gown!

To continue from the quote from the storybook "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: 100th Anniversary Edition" by L. Frank Baum we started on the previous page on the website, here is the next part of the story:

When Dorothy stood in the doorway and looked around, she could see nothing but the great gray prairie sweep of flat country that reached the edge of the sky in all directions. The sun had baked the plowed land into a gray mass, with little cracks running through it. Even the grass was not green, for the sun had burned the tops of the long blades until they were the same gray color to be seen everywhere. Once the house had been painted, but the sun blistered the paint and the rains washed it away, and now the house was a dull and gray as everything else.

When Aunt Em came there to live she was a young, pretty wife. The sun and wind had changed her, too. They had taken the sparkle from her eyes and left them a sober gray; they had taken the red from her cheeks and lips, and they were gray also. She was thin and gaunt, and never smiled, now. When Dorothy, who was an orphan, first came to her, Aunt Em had been so startled by the child's laughter that she would scream and press her hand upon her heart whenever Dorothy's merry voice reached her ears; and she still looked at the little girl with wonder that she could find anything to laugh at.

It is so much fun to have a storybook doll to help us remember this classic children's story.

The Glinda pattern is sized for a doll that is 20 inches tall. Directions are given to modify the pattern and create this outfit for a storybook doll that is from 14 to 25 inches tall.

The model is Queen Louise, a reporduction of a German Armand Marseille doll.
