Doll Suit Pattern for Rhett Butler Costume

Rhett Butler doll sewing pattern
Rhett Butler's suit

The doll suit pattern includes directions for the shirt, waistcoat, jacket, breeches, cravat, Panama hat, boots and long johns.

This doll suit pattern is so cute and so authentic! Rhett's fitted shirt is made from cotton batiste with long cuffed sleeves and a high collar with points that turn down over a stylish printed cravat. The fullness of the sleeves is reduced by two neat tucks. The single-breasted waistcoat is made in a brocade that matches the suiting. The buttons are covered in self-fabric.

The jacket and trousers of the doll suit are made from polyester linen to resemble suiting, which would prove too bulky for construction on such a small scale. The long fitted jacket closes with one button.

Under his suit coat the doll wears tight fitting breeches that were fashionable at the time. A pair of stirrups made out of black elastic hook under the foot.

The cravat for the doll suit is tied around the neck by looping one end over the other. Tuck the ends into the waistcoat then "blouse" it up and secure by sewing on the pearl button or alternatively use a tiepin.

A Panama hat made from the same fabric as the suit and boots complete the doll suit.

Made from flannel, the long johns are a one-piece garment which buttons down the front. A mock flap at the back is held up with two buttons.

The fancy doll suit pattern for Rhett Butler reminds us of the story. To continue on where the previous page on this website left off with the excerpt from the book "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell:
Seated with Stuart and Brent Tarleton in the cool shade of the porch of Tara, her father's plantation, that bright April afternoon of 1861, she made a pretty picture. Her new green flowered-muslin dress spread its twelve yards of billowing material over her hoops and exactly matched the flat-heeled green morocco slippers her father had recently brought her from Atlanta. The dress set off to perfection the seventeen-inch waist, the smallest in three counties, and the tightly fitting basque showed breasts well matured for her sixteen years. But for all the modesty of her spreading skirts, the demureness of hair netted smoothly into a chignon and the quietness of small white hands folded in her lap, her true self was poorly concealed. The green eyes in the carefully sweet face were turbulent, willful, lusty with life, distinctly at variance with her decorous demeanor. Her manners had been imposed upon her by her mother's gentle admonitions and the sterner discipline of her nanny; her eyes were her own.

The doll suit pattern is sized for a doll that is 23 to 25 inches tall. Directions are given to modify it for a doll that is from 14 to 22 inches tall.

The model wearing the suit is a modern Ivan doll.
